VPS Hosting for Chennai Teams: Node Selection and Latency Testing with StreamData

Chennai workloads run from StreamData's Mumbai, Noida or Jaipur nodes. How to choose and test.

StreamData has no node in Chennai. Servers for Chennai users run in Mumbai, Noida or Jaipur, the three locations listed on StreamData's company and locations page. Choose the node by testing the route from where your users actually are, then size the plan by workload. A careful test takes an afternoon and prevents a migration later.

Who hosts from Chennai

Chennai combines a large manufacturing and automotive base with IT services, SaaS companies and technology parks along Rajiv Gandhi Salai, including TIDEL Park. Teams here often run customer-facing SaaS alongside internal systems for manufacturing and logistics.

Picking the node

Mumbai is usually the first node to test from Chennai because it is the nearest of the three. Noida is the second candidate. Whichever route looks best on paper, measure the full path from your users, because their ISPs decide how traffic actually travels.

StreamData lists Cloudflare, Tata Communications, Airtel, Jio, Tata Teleservices, Sify, Ishan Technologies and Yotta in its provider ecosystem. The path your users take depends on their own ISP, which is why a map is only a starting point.

How to test latency from Chennai

  1. Get a test address in each candidate node, or provision the smallest monthly VPS in each.
  2. From a fixed-line connection and a mobile connection in Chennai, run mtr --report --report-cycles 100 <address>.
  3. Run the same test at your busiest hour and late at night.
  4. Compare loss and variance at the final hop as well as the average. Steady beats occasionally fast.
  5. If two nodes are close, pick the one next to your database or your other services, and use the other for backups or a standby.

Choosing a plan

Five of the ten published sizes, from the StreamData KVM VPS plans page. Prices are monthly in INR, excluding GST.

For single-thread-heavy work such as game servers, PHP or Node.js request handling, and compilers, the 9950X range is the better fit:

9950X planvCPUDDR5NVMeMonthly
9950X VPS 16416 GB64 GB₹2,399
9950X VPS 32632 GB128 GB₹4,799
9950X VPS 48848 GB192 GB₹7,199
9950X VPS 641064 GB256 GB₹9,599

The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X is a 16-core, 32-thread Zen 5 processor rated for boost clocks up to 5.7 GHz. A 9950X VPS receives a virtual allocation on that host, not exclusive use of all sixteen cores. See the 9950X VPS plans page.

When shared-host variance becomes a business risk, the dedicated server inventory starts at ₹6,499 per month and includes AMD Ryzen 9 9950X servers with 64 GB DDR5 (₹12,999) or 128 GB DDR5 (₹17,999), both with 1 TB NVMe. Port options of 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps are offered where available.

Protection and responsibilities

StreamData positions eligible services behind Cloudflare (Magic Transit-ready) and StormWall partner mitigation paths, chosen by route, workload and location, with a Layer 3 and 4 focus. The DDoS protection page is explicit that no provider can guarantee 100% protection, and that an attacked IP may be temporarily null-routed when traffic exceeds safe levels. Layer 7 abuse still needs rate limits, caching and application controls on your side.

StreamData does not publish an uptime percentage on its site, so treat availability commitments as something to agree in your order or quotation. Its backup policy is equally clear that backups are the customer's responsibility unless a written order includes managed backups.

What Chennai teams run on StreamData

  • Multi-tenant SaaS backends on KVM VPS
  • Databases for manufacturing and logistics systems on EPYC dedicated servers
  • CI and build servers on the 9950X range
  • Customer portals behind protected network routing

Frequently asked questions

Will users in the rest of Tamil Nadu see the same results?

Not necessarily. Users on different ISPs and in different cities can take different paths to the same node. If your users are spread across the state, test from more than one city and ISP before deciding.

Which plan should a small SaaS start on?

A 4-core, 8 GB VPS is a common production starting point. Watch memory and CPU for a month before resizing.

Are backups included?

No, unless your written order includes managed backups. Keep off-server copies and test restores.
